Painting the places and moments that stay with us

Come and see through an artist's eye, where inspiration becomes interpretation & each painting tells a story or creates feeling.

I'm Carole, an artist inspired by the landscape, nature and ever-changing moods of the Staffordshire Moorlands and The Peak District National Park close to my home.

My paintings are a mixture of landscapes and intuitive, semi-abstract work, created in situ (en plein air) from memories, feelings, colour and the natural world around me.

I hope my art brings you a little of the feeling of being there- a familiar place, a fleeting moment or a connection that stays with you.

My Inspirations and Influences

Atmospherics

When I go out looking for something to paint, quite often the expected doesn't materialise, I think  "Sod's Law"🫢 is the saying, So, I carry my paints with me just in case and often it's the play of light, weather, or sense of awe that captures my attention rather than a pretty cottage, sunset or waterfall or determined effort to compose a picture.

Once I feel it, my senses consume the information and a quick sketch like the one next to this is complete, I can continue in my studio to produce an original piece, play about with colour, composition and other elements of design.

Movement

The ordinary every day things, grasses dancing in the breeze, trees intertwined with trees and fences. Shadows cast upon adjacent objects, water bubbling in a brook. Sound also plays a part heightening senses.

Movement creates magical moments to capture in art.

Connection and wellness

Passionate about the local landscape and its ethereal rugged beauty,

I love to paint on location wherever I possibly can.

It is this connection with nature and my art, working intuitively and to be totally lost in the process.

For me it is therapeutic, feeds my soul, Re- balances the stress and worry in our fast paced life we now lead.

So. Take time out, Be still, Let go and lose yourself in the zen like creativity and refuel.
